Shannon Sheldon is a Partner at Horovitz Tilley, where she brings over two decades of legal expertise to clients across Hawaii and beyond. Specializing in condominium and community association law, commercial litigation, business litigation, real estate litigation, construction defect litigation, business transactions, and intellectual property, Shannon delivers strategic counsel and robust representation to help clients navigate complex disputes and achieve their business objectives.
Her professional journey includes serving as Partner at Berding & Weil in Wailuku, Hawaii (2022-2024), and as Partner and Managing Member at McKeon Sheldon Mehling in Wailuku (2011-2022). Prior roles include positions at Paul Johnson Park & Niles in Wailuku (2006-2010), Sheldon & Mak in Pasadena, California (2004-2006), Rountree, Losee & Baldwin in Wilmington, North Carolina (2003-2004), Alston Hunt Floyd & Ing (now Dentons) in Honolulu (2002-2003), and Lyon & Lyon in Irvine, California (2001-2002). She began her career as a Law Clerk at Nydegger & Associates in La Jolla, California (1996-1997).
Shannon earned her J.D. from Loyola Marymount University in 2001 and a B.S. in Biology from the University of California at San Diego in 1998. Admitted to practice in Hawaii (2003), California (2001), and North Carolina (2003), Shannon is also registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Her court admissions include the Supreme Court of Hawaii (2003), United States District Court for the District of Hawaii (2011), U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit (2002), United States District Court for the Central District of California (2002), United States District Court for the Southern District of California (2001), and Eastern District of North Carolina (2003).
Deeply committed to professional and community leadership, Shannon has served as President of the Western States Bar Conference (2023-2024) and President of the Hawaii State Bar Association (2022). She is a member of the American Bar Association, American Intellectual Property Law Association, and Hawaii Justice Foundation, among others.
Her community involvement includes mentoring for King Kekaulike Mock Trial (2024), serving as a Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian Ad Litem (2020-2022), lecturing on business law at the University of Hawaii Maui (2016-2020), and chairing the Maui Humane Society (2018). Earlier roles included board positions with Women Entrepreneurs and Executives (2004-2006), Boys and Girls of Pasadena (2005-2006), and membership in the Tournament of Roses (2004-2006) and Rotary (2004-2006).
Shannon is a sought-after speaker and author on topics ranging from association governance and intellectual property protection to employment law and business strategies. Her recent presentations include “Top Ten Policies for Associations” for Hawaiiana Management Co. (2024), “What Directors Need to Know to Avoid Special Assessments” for the Condominium Council of Maui (2021), and “Protecting Your Intellectual Property” for the University of Hawaii Maui Food Innovation (2020).
She has also contributed to publications such as the “Federal Circuit Yearbook” (co-author, 2001-2002) and “How to Write a Patent Application” (contributor, 2000).
Her academic accolades include being a Top Ten Oralist in the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition (2001), the Cali Excellence for the Future Award in International Law from the University of Hawaii at Manoa William S. Richardson School of Law (2000), and the Best Brief Writer Award in the Loyola Moot Court Competition (2000).
